Open Mic Switches to Once a Month

BIMA, Bowen Island Music Association, is committed to producing live music on Bowen. To keep the local artists streaming through our midst, BIMA hosts an Open Mic night down at Gino's Happy Isle Cafe.

On the second Thursday of every month the microphone is switched on at 7:30 and an impromptu line-up begins. From celtic reels to rock and roll and poetry, many acts have graced the stage over the last year.

If you have been working on a tune for a while and would like to give it some airtime, please come and join us. If you have a poem, a monologue or a ballad, come and share it in a warm, cozy environment. The practice is simple: come down, sign up to perform, and a line-up is created according to the number and style of the evenings' acts.

Gino serves wine, beer and snacks and a spirit of warmth and hospitality is enjoyed by all. So don't be shy! Write a song or borrow one from one of the greats. Just think, a room like Gino's is exactly the kind of place where the likes of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell were discovered.
