The Municipality staged a Public Turf Field Meeting, moderated by CAO Slegtenhorst, a week before the expected completion of the work on the field. It was to allow the Project Team to update to the Community on the progress, the launch date and to answer questions the public would have.
Christine Walker, BIM Community Services Manager, provided an overview of the project to date. Project Manager, Florrie Levine and Stacy Beamer elaborated on technical details including additional drainage that was created for the existing grass field. A question and answer session followed the presentation with most of the questions being fielded by Managing Director of GeoTurf, Domenic Carapella. Many of the questions about health issues and the organic infill were explained in detail. The discussion also went into the practical benefits of the field which resulted in a positive exchange between key members of the Bowen Island Football Club and people that were in varying degrees of opposition to the project.
